General Admission Requirements
At a minimum, you must have received, or anticipate receiving prior to the start of the semester you are applying to, a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university. Application to a Ph.D. program also requires a master’s degree from Saybrook or another regionally accredited college or university.
An exception is made for students who are applying to:
- Ph.D. Clinical Psychology: Conferral of a master’s degree is not required. Applicants must have completed a B.A./B.S. in psychology, counseling, or social work, or have 12 semester credits/20 quarter credits of psychology coursework completed at a regionally-accredited college or university.
- Ph.D. Integrative and Functional Nutrition: students interested in the Ph.D. Integrative and Functional Nutrition (IFN) who lack a master’s degree may enter directly into the M.S. to Ph.D. Pathway in IFN. These students will take a course sequence that meets the course and credit requirements for the M.S. IFN while they are pursuing a Ph.D. in IFN.
The minimum grade point average (GPA) requirement is 3.0 from the last degree-granting institution. With approval from your department chair, your application may still be considered with a GPA lower than 3.0 through a demonstration of strength in the other admission requirements.

Reapplication to M.A./Ph.D. Programs
For Saybrook graduates or students interested in continuing their studies by applying to a new or ongoing study program, please contact the admissions office for the requirements. Please note applicants must have completed their M.A./M.S. degree at Saybrook or be within six credits of completion. Admission to Ph.D. programs is not granted until all requirements for graduation are filed, completed, and certified by the registrar.
